Our Renovation Projects
In October 2016 we purchased Miners Camp. Our 16 acre farm with an orchard. The house was a 1970's 2 bedroom bungalow with a more modern games room off the deck. The games room is now our bunk room, a favorite with family groups doing the queen Charlotte Track. The camp is in the orchard and now has a hot shower and washing up facilities all in among the trees. We have stocked the farm and put in an extensive garden, both providing a wide variety of amazing food that we serve to our guests.
2018 Winter Renovations
What a mission! 15 tonnes of timber and concrete were hand unloaded from the boat and carted onsite trailer load by trailer load. Pre bedtime routine included peppermint tea, magnesium supplements and panadol. But we did it! My son suggested the use of a helicopter after one particularly tough day and it was not a bad idea. Maybe next time. The cabins, store and new building for the shower were erected first then we got going onto the deck. Unfortunately our builder ended up unable to do it. A good friend came over and helped us with the profiles (Levels) and taught us how to go about building the deck. 6 weeks later and with the help of several campers who we bribed with food, wine and free accommodation, we finished it….. 3 hours before our first guests arrived for the Christmas busy period! The deck has been such an asset and acts like an extra room for our house guests. We have now fed many many guests dinner and breakfast out on the deck while the admire the view of the inlet.

We still have the new shower to finish and some of this delay relates to the new drainage system that we need to install.
The shop we hope to have going ready for the cyclists when they start on 1st March. Our food license allows us to sell coffee, cakes and other food that we prepare up at the main kitchen as well as camping supplies.
2019 Projects
We have a new bridge! It was the old ramp joining the main wharf and the floating jetty at Furneaux Lodge. They were replacing the old one with a new wider alloy walkway which is really brilliant. Graham is a bit of a magpie and spotted them removing it and they were going to throw away. The new owners said we could have it and it is still very strong, so, we got them to put it into the water, towed it to Miners Wharf, dragged it up the boat ramp and then used the tractor to get it up to the camp. Our excavator lifted it into place over the little stream behind the campground and we had our new bridge. It looks perfect. The campground is still fenced from the stream, but once through the gate and over the bridge you are in a really pretty little area that we will use to extend the campground facilities.
